How to Tie a Clove Hitch Knot
Clove Hitch can be used as a crossing knot (macramé knotting) or for utility use. This easy to tie knot can even be done with one hand. A round pole or object is best for this kind of knot because it will hold better than if it was tied on a rectangular or square post.
This knot is easy to tie and untie. It has multiple functions including hanging up hammocks, hoisting items, and even starting a macramé or other decorative craft. However, it does easily slip and is difficult to untie when a thinner cord is used to hold a heavy load.
Follow the tutorial below for step-by-step instructions on how to create the clove hitch knot.
You can use any kind of rope or cord to make a clove hitch knot, but in this tutorial, we are using olive drab 550 paracord.
Place the working part of the cord over the top of the pole/item.
Wrap the cord around the pole so that the working side is to the right of the rest of the cord.
Take the end of the cord bring it over the main cord to make an “X” Shape.
Wrap the cord around the pole/item again.
Place the end of the cord under the last piece that was wrapped around.
For more security, make sure to push the sides together and pull both ends of the cord, so that it is as tight as possible.
